Barboglio Family Winery
The Il Mosnel winery in Franciacorta Italy has been operated for more than two centuries by the Barboglio family. The historic estate is near the Cistercian Abbey in Rodengo where there are hundreds of years of vineyard cultivation to rely on, thanks to the monks who produced the wines. The sparkling wine produced locally since the late part of the 1900s is known as Franciacorta.
Sparkling Wine Production
Experimentation with sparkling wine did not really take hold until winemaker Ziliano began his experimentation with the product. Previously, Franciacorta wineries were better known for red wines. Some 17th century bubbles wines have been found in the area. In 1968, Il Mosnel was recognized as one of the first DOCG in Franciacorta. Many of the high-budget wineries from Lombardia have produced a high popularity of this region's wines.
The Barboglio family purchased the cellar and estate in the early 1800s and made the transition from still wines to sparkling wines in the late 1900s.
